Plastic The Facts

How can a company that takes its environmental responsibilities seriously be suggesting that we use more plastic?

Easy to dismiss as the environmental villain, plastic is – perhaps remarkably – better in the long run for the environment than more traditional packaging materials.

There is no other material that performs like plastic for RTP. Metal takes vast amounts of energy to create and reuse. Wood and cardboard need to be replaced much more frequently. Plastic is recyclable and lasts longer.

Plastic is versatile and takes the knocks of daily use – and misuse. Our plastic RTP is designed so that certain components can be replaced easily when worn or damaged.

Plastic is incredibly light considering its strength. Even the heaviest loads are less cumbersome, and reduced weight means less fuel is used in transport – cutting carbon miles.

The average weight of plastic packaging has reduced by more than a quarter over the past decade, and designers are constantly finding new ways to deploy it more effectively and efficiently. We remain conscious, however, of the need to ensure it is used responsibly.

Health and safety is a big issue today too. But it’s not a problem with plastic. Plastic meets the rigorous demands of the food industry and can be washed and disinfected to the highest safety standards.

Plastic also offers better product protection, improved handling (especially with automated systems) and more efficient logistics.

And when, eventually, it does succumb to old age, we can recycle your old plastic containers – turning them into the next generation of high-performance plastic packaging.
